The heel height of athletic shoes varies depending on the style, purpose, and design philosophy. Generally, athletic shoe heel heights can be categorized into the following common ranges:

 

Low Heels (0-2 cm):

Advantages: Close to barefoot feel, allowing for flexible toe movement, suitable for everyday walking and casual wear.

Disadvantages: Weak cushioning, prone to knee injuries from prolonged walking on hard surfaces; not recommended for those with flat feet or collapsed arches (lacks support).

 

Mid Heels (3-5 cm):

Advantages: The difference in height between the forefoot and heel distributes pressure on the foot, reducing knee impact during running (especially suitable for concrete roads and tracks); the heel's arch design also stabilizes the ankle joint, reducing the risk of sprains. Commonly found in basketball shoes and training shoes, the advantage is enhanced heel support, suitable for vigorous exercise (such as jumping and sudden stops).

Disadvantages: Thick soles may affect traction; caution is advised when hiking or on complex terrain. Wearing these shoes for extended periods may lead to Achilles tendon shortening and calf muscle tension; they are not recommended for daily commutes.

 

High-heeled casual sneakers (some styles can reach 6-7 cm or higher):

These shoes are primarily designed to meet fashion and casual needs, such as PUMA's Pulsar Wedge series, with heel heights between 6.8 and 6.9 cm. However, these shoes are generally not suitable for prolonged brisk walking or strenuous exercise.
